In addition to general adult preventative and medical care, we recognise there are many health issues specific to women. At Gerringong Medical Practice we have female doctors with specialised expertise in Women’s Health.
Dr Ann Shippers has additional training in the insertion of IUDs (Mirena and coil IUDs) and all of our female GPs have expertise in the following areas:
- Contraception and family planning- we thoroughly assess the best option and provide you with the information to enable you to make the best choice for you.
- Implanon and Mirena/coil IUD insertion
- Menorrhagia (heavy periods) and menstrual cycle problems.
- Menopause and peri-menopause management.
- Breast examination and assessment of breast complaints.
- Cervical screening – all of our female GPs and our midwife Rachel perform cervical screening. We aim to make this procedure as comfortable as possible and with the new guidelines, most women will only require cervical screening every 5 years.
- Pregnancy and antenatal care
- Sexual health and STI checks.
- Osteoporosis (low bone density) – Osteoporosis is a common problem for post-menopausal women and at GMP we aim to screen all of our female patients for osteoporosis. We aim to maintain or improve bone density and prevent fractures through evidence based treatment and regular assessment.
- Domestic violence and abuse.
