We provide an after hours service to regular patients of Gerringong Medical Practice. Refer to Contact Us for our normal hours of operation.
The need for a GP to be on call after hours before and after a busy day consulting in the practice is extremely demanding. We ask that you consider this and seek after hours care in the following ways:
- If you need advice for a medical emergency such as severe or persisting chest pain, breathing difficulties, severe bleeding or loss of consciousness you call 000 for an ambulance or for a serious illness or injury visit your nearest hospital Emergency Department.
- If you need reassurance or free practical medical advice, phone the After Hours GP Helpline on 1800 022 222. You will be assessed by a Registered Nurse and you may be offered a call back from a GP.
- The Australian Government also provides funding for urgent care clinics where you can receive free urgent care 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm. The nearest clinic to Gerringong is Dapto Urgent Care – Cnr. Bong Bong Road and Princes Highway. No appointment is required.
- If you are a regular patient at Gerringong Medical Practiceand cannot wait to see your doctor before the practice opens (8:30 am Monday to Saturday), you can phone the practice and you will be diverted to an answering service. You will receive a call back from a GP and may be offered an urgent after hours consultation. Please note that all after hours services are privately billed and no discounts apply. After the Medicare rebate there will be an out-of-pocket cost of $75 for all services, including telephone consultations.
