Dr Ann Schippers has been working at Gerringong Medical Practice since 2009. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, then attained her fellowship in General Practice in 2011. This followed a short career as a Medical Physicist working initially at St George Hospital, and then at the Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis.
Ann grew up in the Sutherland Shire. She moved to Gerringong temporarily in 2007, however has fallen in love with the town and now considers it home. She and her husband have 3 children, with the entire family heavily involved in the Gerringong Breakers Football Club. Locally she enjoys working in her veggie patch, walking, photographing and swimming in our beautiful beaches. She also enjoys travelling further afield, immersing her family in different cultures.
General Practice has given Ann an opportunity to follow her interests, which she considers to be the joy of General Practice. She is experienced in managing a wide range of patients and presentations in the general practice, at the Uniting Nursing Home in Gerringong, and previously as a Palliative Care VMO at David Berry Hospital. She has pursued further training in:
– Aviation Medicine – Australian Certificate of Aviation Medicine, qualifying her as a DAME, enabling Ann to perform the Aviation Medical fitness examinations required by pilots
– Paediatrics – Diploma of Child Health
– Women’s Health, with training in IUD (Mirena and Copper) and Implanon insertion, and having completed the Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health
– Antenatal (pregnancy) Care, regularly attending Antenatal Shared Care updates through Wollongong Hospital
Ann works at Gerringong Medical Practice on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
